Which Formula Should You Use?

Different formulas may be more accurate depending on your age and sex.

  • Tanaka Formula: Generally considered more accurate for adults of all ages. This is the best choice for most people.
  • Traditional (220 - age): The most well-known formula, but tends to overestimate for younger adults and underestimate for older adults.
  • Gulati Formula: Specifically developed for women and tends to be more accurate for female athletes.
